The
actuator is driven by the flexible shaft (red) from the
inboard left-hand actuator. The rotation of the actuator
input shaft is converted by a worm gear, increasing the
torque. and changing the direction by 90°. The worm gear
drives the ball screw spindle (grey). The spindle nut (blue)
is connected to the flap panel.
At the outer side of the
actuator is the electronic position device. This device
is at both outer actuators and can detect an asymmetric
movement of the flap panels, which would be a malfunction.
In this case the supervising electronic circuit shuts
down the motor immediately.
